中国农业科学院蔬菜花卉研究所建于１９５８年，现有职工２２８人，是国家级蔬菜花卉学科的专业科研机构。全所共有５个研究室。是“国家蔬菜作物改良中心”、“国家昌平综合农业工程技术研究开发中心蔬菜花卉分中心”、农业部重点开放实验室“蔬菜遗传与生理实验室”、农业部“蔬菜种质及产品质量监督、检验、测试中心（北京）”、“中国园艺学会”的依托（或挂靠）单位。研究所以应用研究为主，着重解决蔬菜、花卉生产和科学研究中带有普遍意义的重大科技问题，有重点地开展应用基础的研究，取得一批重大科研成果，积极开展科技成果的转化和推广，社会经济效益显著，已初步形成了出成果、出人才、出效益的良性循环。
