铁路旅客站房的房間組成是比較复杂的。它的各个房間可能合併设置于一幢建筑物中,也可能以各种不同的組合方式分散設置于若干幢建筑物内。由于旅客站規模、性質和其他各种具体条件,使房間组成有很大变化。並且經常还有许多单位在站内设置房屋或在站房內設有房间。经过对旅客站房内各种房间的具体分析和研究,初步确定了旅客站房的房間组成内容,並且根据其使用性質进行了分类。但必须說明,我国目前办理客运业务的車站,绝大部分都兼办貸运业务,实际上是客货运站,只有少数是純粹的旅客站。而在确定旅客站房的组成內容时,除了車站货运业务量很小,貸运业务由行李房兼管的情况以外,不包括货运用房。
