一个有前途的商家当然是进取的。有进取精神与态度,才会创新观念以及勤奋工作,才能寻求生意上的种种突破,跑在同业者之前。然而,请千万分清楚,有进取心的生意人,并不是等于好大喜功。好胜与进取是有分别的。前者是有意气的成分在内,一旦为了耀武扬威,为了争一时之气,而忽视了事件的合理性与周围环境的可行性,就会变成是好胜、好勇、好大,而非进取。最简单的分析是进取的态度是必须在完全合理合情的条件之下表现出来的,是晓得利用当时的天时、地利、人和促成一个业务意念,而非硬与时、地、人斗法,非要争胜不可的。
