南方地区种植水稻为主的稻麦产区,使用标准型切割器并不完全适用。因此,南方地区不少研制单位自行设计制造了没有护刃器的各种型式的切割器,其动刀片大、中、小(动刀片宽度或行程分别为76、60、50及38毫米)四种;定刀片型式更多,没有统一的规格。中国农机院组织了浙江省农机所、嘉兴收割机厂和镇江农机学院等十多个单位,由浙江省农机所具体负责,经过几年来的研究试验,改进提高,研制成功了一种适于中小型稻麦收割机和半喂入联合收割机使用的轻型切割器。这种轻型切割器的结构型式和基本尺寸如图1所
