我国有名的长寿村——广西巴马村有30多位百岁以上的老人,而且全村人均寿命竟在90岁以上,这现象引起了国内外医学界的关注。上世纪80年代中后期,WHO和我国卫生部联合专家组深入该地认真地进行了调查,发现其原因在于他们的饮食习惯与众不同,自古就有饮用苦丁茶的习俗,许多人终生不曾到医院看过病。由此苦丁茶被称为“长寿茶”,并引起日、美、韩、东南亚与欧洲的学者、茶叶和医药界企业的关注。随着茶学、化学和药学研究的深入,苦丁茶资源被重新发掘,并逐渐产业化,海南、广西、贵州、四川、浙江、安徽等地出现了专门从事种植、加工、销售苦丁茶的企业。
