This article uses the way of narration and comment to “review” the general situation of Chinese academia and Bible Studies in the past twenty-five years. Based on the special national conditions of contemporary China, what is meant here is “biblical” subordinated to the very broad “Christian Studies” or other humanities. In particular, the article emphasizes that the social and political environment of the three decades from 1950 to 1980 simply can not provide any space for development and opportunity for biblical research. The reform and opening up started in 1978 gave a historic and epoch-making opportunity and opportunity for the study of Christianity and Bible in contemporary China. Today, broadly defined studies of Christianity in China have not only been affirmed by the academic community, but there have been basically no controversies concerning non-Christian research on Christianity and the Bible. The article also points out the lack of biblical research and publishing in China, the significance of the Bible as a literary research, and the importance of the Bible to Bible study. In the meantime, some inspiring biblical conferences have been listed in recent years, discussing the popularity of the Bible and the Chinese translation of the Bible. The cross-cutting study and dialogue between the Bible and Sinology will be the subject of special attention in the future. Christianity and biblical research involve not only “academic” but also “existential” issues, which are of particular importance for China’s future development and evolution. The future development of biblical studies in China is hard to predict. Assuming no major changes in society and politics in the future, this article may use “guarded optimism” to express the vision of Bible studies in Chinese academia.
