November 15 last year is a landmark day. Starting from that day, marked by the successful negotiations between China and the United States in the WTO, China finally took the decisive step toward a market economy. Moore, WTO director-general, commented that China has opened the door to history. According to reports from foreign countries, China has opened the Great Wall of Trade. The reporter recently interviewed Zhang Wuchang, an economist with international influence, in Hong Kong. He said joining the WTO means “China will no longer protect its privileges.” After learning the key points of the agreement on the accession of China and the United States to the WTO, he wrote an article devoted to “once again cautiously optimistic about the Chinese economy.” Everyone in the academic circles knows that such words are said by Professor Chang-Sang Chang and that there should be more weight.
