严复、张謇、蔡元培、胡适、黄炎培等民国时期的资产阶级教育家既充分肯定学生的爱国热情及在开启民智方面的巨大作用,反对当局对学生的镇压,又不主张学生进行游行、请愿,尤其反对他们罢课。他们认为学生运动只是无奈之举,不但虚掷光阴,荒疏学业,而且不利于学校和国家的发展。形成这种看似矛盾实则统一认识的根源就在于他们对教育救国理念的坚守。显然,对教育救国思潮和学生运动的地位与作用也应作实事求是的评价。

The root cause of forming such seemingly contradictory but in fact unifying understanding lies in their adherence to the idea of saving the nation by education. Obviously, the status and role of the trend of national salvation and the student movement in education should also be evaluated in a pragmatic manner.
