本文是作者对其新完成的国家社科基金课题“构建中国西部增长极体系与带动新型工业化发展研究”的成果内容进行概括而形成的,在区域经济学领域第一次提出和论证“增长极体系理论”的创新性探索,主旨在于回答从“十二五”开始我国西部开发和发展应当有怎样一种新的战略思路、西部开发和发展需要怎样的增长极、怎样建设这种增长极、这种增长极如何发挥带动西部地区新型工业化发展的作用等问题,力求从理论与实际的结合,使“增长极体系理论”成为适应我国区域发展需要特别是西部地区开发、发展需要的一种新的经济理论。
