20世纪70年代以来,美国推行的“学院高中课程”计划是指高中与大学或社区学院达成协议,在大学校园为高中学生开设大学课程,大学或学院负责设置课程和制定考核标准,学生选修大学课程可以获得相应学分的课程计划,旨在帮助那些濒临辍学的学生达到高中毕业条件并过渡到中等后教育阶段。时至今日,学院高中课程依旧以帮助高中学生成长和进步为使命而活跃在美国的社区当中,致力于扩大积极进取的高中学生的学习机会,以便他们顺利拿到高中毕业证书以及获得升入社区学院或四年制大学甚至取得职业资格证书所需要的学分。学院高中课程在衔接美国中学与中学后教育方面发挥了重要作用。
