目前,使用电话线将心电图传输给传感器,再由计算机进行自动分析,最后将分析结果送给医生的超声波诊断系统已经实用化。但是,在超声波诊断时,有许多情况需要得到心藏跳动等的动态诊断图像,若使用上述系统,则难以实现远距离诊断。东京农工大学工学部的伊藤健一教授等在东京、三鹰医学会和日本电电公司的协助下,研制成功了由超声波回送装置、电视摄像机、光纤和INS典型系统等构成的远距离超声波诊断实验系统。
