Objective To investigate the effects of high kV technology on X-ray absorption dose and image quality in computerized radiography (CR). Methods Thirty-two subjects were divided into control group and study group according to the principle of randomization, with 16 cases in each group. The control group used general kV technology (60 ~ 80kV) photography, the research group used high kV technology (120kV) photography. The subjects were underwent chest photography using a ToshibaDCW-20AX line machine and a KodakDirectViewCR975 system, and the subject’s X-ray absorption dose was measured by a thermoluminescence dosimeter. Two high-grade radiosurgeons from Class A and B were blindly scored on a 5-point scale to obtain CR image quality. Images with ≥3 points were considered clinically acceptable and could meet the diagnostic requirements. Results The X-ray absorption dose was (0.22 ± 0.03) mGy in the study group and (0.63 ± 0.18) mGy in the control group (P <0.05). Physician A rated the image quality grade of the study group and the control group as 3.88 ± 0.50 and 4.19 ± 0.54 (P> 0.05). Physician B rated the image quality grades of the study group and the control group as 3.81 ± 0.54 and 4.12 ± 0.62, respectively (P> 0.05). Conclusion Compared with the general kV technology, the high kV technology has the advantages of low radiation dose and high resolution. Therefore, the X-ray absorption dose of the examinee is obviously reduced in the CR examination, and the image quality can meet the diagnosis requirement.
