保持滚刀齿形与蜗杆齿形的一致,是目前蜗轮滚刀设计方面遵循的一条原则。按照这个原则设计的滚刀,在展切齿数较多的蜗轮时,所确定的滚刀齿形角对蜗轮造成的影响是不显著的。但在加工齿数不多(如单头蜗轮,齿数Z_2<22)的蜗轮时,齿数越少,蜗轮根切现象愈严重,所确定的滚刀齿形角对蜗轮造成的影响,就成了一个突出的问题。如图1所示,后一种影响的主要表现是:蜗轮齿顶过宽;齿根部削弱;齿形角减小;与蜗杆的啮合不正常。在这种情况下,运用变位法已难于解决蜗轮加工中存在的问题,不能达到消除根切现象的目的。因此,对于滚刀齿形
