形觉是视觉最重要的功能之一。在临床上主要是以视力表视力来评价。但这种视力表视力的测定是有局限性的,不能全面、精确地反映人眼形觉功能的特性。近年来由于现代光学中空间频率特性空间对比传递函数(MTF)概念引用到视觉生理研究中来,人们开始把MTF 测定应用于临床。国外自1972年以来不但广泛应用,并有检测仪出售。目前已将对比敏感度测定作为各种疾病检查手段之一。如青光眼、糖尿病、黄斑病变、白内障、弱视等等。国内在这方面的临床应用还不多。1983年温州医学院研制成功
