Objective To understand the effect of T2DM on cognitive function in the elderly. Methods Sixty-nine patients with T2DM (T2DM group) and 73 non-diabetic patients (N-DM group) were enrolled in this study. The results of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) Scale and the Concise Intelligent Mental State Examination (MMSE) Scale were compared. Differences in Cognitive Implications for Cognitive Impairment with or without T2DM. Results In the two MoCA scales, the short-term memory [(2.8 ± 1.6) vs (3.3 ± 1.3), P <0.05] and the bells test [(3.1 ± 1.2) vs (3.4 ± 1.0) 0.054] is poor. Cognitive impairment in cognitive dysfunction in patients with T2DM broader cognitive impairment. When the MoCA scale delayed memory was divided by 3, the Kappa value of cognitive dysfunction was 0.831. Conclusion The effect of T2DM on the cognitive function of the elderly is mainly manifested in memory, and extensive damage to cognitive ability. Delayed memory of the MoCA scale can be used as a simple screening method for cognitive dysfunction.
