Objective To evaluate the health risk of intake of mercury and arsenic for preschool children in Xinluo District. Methods Six species of marine fish were purchased from 6 markets in Xinluo District. The contents of mercury and arsenic in samples were determined by atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The health risk assessment was conducted using the USEPA health risk assessment model and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended assessment method. Results The results showed that marine fish sold in Xinluo District had little mercury pollution and serious arsenic pollution. The maximum health risk of arsenic contamination in all kinds of marine fish is less than the maximum acceptable annual risk level (5 × 10 -5) recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP); weekly assessment of various fish species (EWI) Are also lower than the WHO recommended total arsenic allowance limit (PTWI), and the maximum contributions of all kinds of marine fish to human PTWI are also below 5%. Conclusion Preschool children in Xinluo District consume various kinds of marine fish for ingestion of mercury. The health risk of arsenic is low, which will not pose a threat to their health.
