1992年8月,“中国科学技术史国际学术讨论会”在杭州举行。英国皇家学会会长,研究中国科学技术史专家李约瑟博士派了代表来杭出席讨论会,并在会上宣读致词,特别提到浙江大学的3位已故教授对中国科学史研究上的巨大贡献。其中一位就是王琎教授,他用定量分析和定性分析鉴定我国青铜器和古钱币的化学成分,令人信服地证实了中国古代的冶金技术水平在当时是极为先进的。
In August 1992, the “International Symposium on the History of Science and Technology in China” was held in Hangzhou. President of the Royal Society, Dr. Joseph Needham, a Chinese expert on history of science and technology, sent a representative to Hangzhou to attend the seminar and read a speech at the conference. He specifically mentioned the great contribution made by the three late Zhejiang University professors in the history of Chinese science . One of them, Professor Wang Yuan, used quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to identify the chemical composition of Chinese bronzes and ancient coins, convincingly confirming that the ancient Chinese metallurgy was extremely advanced at that time.
