八一总场是集农工商运建于一体综合经营的大型企业集团。下属有五个国营农场、四大骨干工厂、十八家小型工商企业。建场近40年来,特别是自海南建省以来,我场抓住有利时机,深化企业改革,转换经营机制,强化企业内部管理,面向市场办工业,办好工业促农业。充分发挥自身优势,努力创造条件上项目,依靠科技进步、产品质量、人才培养和严格管理,在激烈的市场竞争中赢得了主动,工业生产规模逐步壮大,工业经济比重逐年上升:八一糖厂日榨量达2500 t:八一胶厂日加工能力达32t;板方材生产能力8000m~3/年;水泥生产能力达450000t/年。制糖业、建材业和橡胶初加工、深加工已成为海南省目前较大的生产基地。1993年全场工农业总产值(按1990年不变价)为18563万元,是1988年12690万元的1.46倍,平均每年递增7.9％;工业产值9947万元,是1988年5015万元的1.98倍,平均年递增14.7 ％;工业产值占工农业总产值的53.6％,比1988年的39.5％
