凯特·肖邦的《觉醒》是美国女性文学史上的一部经典著作。小说中的女主人公艾德娜·庞特里耶有着世人眼中的美满生活。然而在一年的夏天,她遇见了劳伯特·赖勃伦,并与之坠入爱河,随之而来的是她在精神上不同层面的觉醒。整部小说以艾德娜的觉醒为主线,体现了女性对自我的追求。与此同时,另外两位女性角色也不容忽视。她们分别是堪称传统女性典范的阿黛儿·拉提诺和孤身一人的钢琴家芮芝小姐。虽然花在这两个人物身上的笔墨不多,但她们具有鲜明的个性特征,并且和女主人公艾德娜有着千丝万缕的联系。
Kate Chopin’s “Awakening” is a classic work in the history of American women’s literature. The heroine of the novel Edna Pontellier has a happy life in the world. However, in the summer of one year she met and fell in love with Lubert Rueblen, followed by her spiritual awakening at different levels. The whole novel, based on Edna’s awakening, embodies the pursuit of women by themselves. In the meantime, the other two women’s roles should not be overlooked. They are Adele Latino, a model of traditional women, and the solo pianist Miss Rui, respectively. Although there are not many words spent on these two figures, they have distinct personality traits and are inextricably linked with the heroine Edna.
