Objective To explore the differences of blood test results between blood donors in colleges and non-colleges and universities to understand the present situation of unpaid blood donation in college students and to provide reference for recruiting more potential blood donors. Methods According to the data of blood donors in colleges and universities in Guangzhou from 2011 to 2015, the changes of the transfusion-related markers of infectious diseases were analyzed to explore the relationship between blood test results and gender, age, number of blood donations and the nature of colleges and universities . Results The unqualified rate of college blood donors was lower than that of non-university graduates (2.59% and 3.58% respectively in 2015), while the unqualified rate of both was declining. In 2015, The passing rate of blood donors in universities was negatively correlated with age (0.80, P <0.01, trend test), and the frequency of blood donation (1.97, P <0.01, trend test) (1.68, P <0.01, trend test) was positively correlated. Conclusion The unqualified rate of unpaid blood donors in Guangzhou is declining year by year. However, the blood donors in colleges and universities have a higher passing rate than other blood donors, so college donors are still the safe source of blood.
