新媒体艺术成为公共空间的主流展演形式自上世纪六十年代初开始,现代科技开始作为一种独立媒体逐步介入到艺术领域,这种以声、光、电等数字技术为基础的新媒体艺术形式在当今国际大型艺术展中已日趋主流。而以奥运会、世博会为代表的大型文化活动,既是当今世界规模最大的文化庆典,同时也逐步成为新媒体艺术集中展示的另一盛会。从1976年蒙特利尔奥运会第一次使用大屏幕,到1992年巴塞罗那奥运会开始将更多的光、影、色彩以及空间利用等因素融入到开幕式中,如今的上海世博会更是将多媒体艺术引领到了一个全新的更为广阔的公共社会领域。“大型展示除了直接商贸以外,更多的是对新思想、新科技、新知识的传播、推广、引导与交流。它面对的更多的是非专业观众。希望在参观时除了获得最新信息外,更希望参观的过程充满乐趣、充满新奇的体验。
