他不仅擅写意、工笔国画,亦兼诗文、书法、篆刻、京剧、古琴并均不是一般的涉猎宋唯源(筱明),字胤儒。1980年就读于中央美术学院中国画系,师从叶浅予,李可染,李苦禅、蒋兆和等众多艺术大师,1984年留校。1993年,英国剑桥大学《世界名人录》入典名人。2009年宋唯源为张艺谋鸟巢版《图兰朵》绘制中国画背景图。其绘画才能得到日本著名艺术大师加山又造的高度评价。现为中央美术学院中国画院客座教授,天津美院国画系客座教授、中国人民大学徐悲鸿美术学院客座教授、荣宝斋画院客座教授,清华大学创作基地教授,中国书画艺术创作基地国画艺委会委员。
