建国初期,我国汽车工业开始起步,经过30多年的发展在21世纪进入了快速的发展期。目前已经具有了2.4亿辆保有量规模,其中公路营运车辆已经达到了1339.89万辆。其中客运市场随着高铁、城轨的发展,近几年略有下降,但是货运车辆仍保持着增长的态势。
