Much of the debate about future computing revolves around past computer architectures. Computers used to be very centralized devices. The first computers were used by the government and were often used to crack passwords and the like. Later, large companies bought large computers, run by experts. In the era of mainframe computing, centralized computing is still not a problem. The changes in the minicomputer era are for computers to be used by more organizations. Most calculations are centralized, making time-sharing systems quite popular. However, many of the machines we have seen are dedicated to specific tasks, mostly in the technical area.
