The latest data shows that the gross domestic product in the first quarter increased by 7.6% year-on-year, though it was 0.5 percentage point lower than the same period of last year, but it was 0.3 percentage points faster than last year’s growth rate. The macroeconomic performance in the first quarter exceeded people’s expectations. First, industrial production has maintained rapid growth and structural adjustment has made new progress. In the first quarter, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size reached 649.4 billion yuan [see Table 3.4.1], a year-on-year increase of 10.9%.
