在共产党的革命文艺史上,有着与八路军、新四军建制相关的两大体系,而在八路军系统中,又有着延安与其他革命根据地之间的差别,这是由战争时期与革命胜利之后各自所处地位的不同而形成的,基本上反映了在一个体系范围之内因为阵营的不同所带来的在专业范围之内的现实的状况。延安的和延安之外的八路军美术工作者在美术界一般都是位高权重,名家众多。而新四军中虽然也不乏杰出的美术家,可是,在文革前只有邵宇(1919—1992)一人官至中国美协书记处书记和人民美术出版社社长,在其他省市,也只有赖少其(1915—2000)在华东地区占有要职,并于1959年任中共安徽省委宣传部副部长兼省文联主席、党组书记。
