“五四”前后,周恩来新闻报刊宣传活动非常活跃,其民主政治思想表现十分强烈。他明确提出“本民主主义精神发表一切主张”,“本革心和革新的精神为主旨”的办报办刊思想。“五四”前后,他娴熟地运用新闻武器,为实现民主政治而呼号,为改造旧世界、改造旧思想而战斗。他以满腔热情和超凡胆识唤醒民众觉悟,鼓动民主革命。在报道内容上,他紧扣新闻事件,旗帜鲜明地及时有力地抨击军阀统治和帝国主义者侵略行径,充满反帝反封建色彩;在宣传形式上,他把政治鼓动与思想启发有机地结合起来,充满批判、鼓动和组织力量。从“五四”前后周恩来的新闻宣传活动中所表现的思想,我们可以明晰地看到,他实现由民主主义者向马克思主义者转变的历史轨迹。
