In the metallurgical industry, the direct rolling of continuous casting slabs on hot strip mills is one of the most advanced technologies to shorten the production cycle and save energy. At the end of 1980, a two-strand slab caster was installed at the Nipponbashi Plant, which was connected to a roughing mill. In July 1981, the direct rolling process was put into operation. By mid-1984, 2 million t of coil had been produced and the direct rolling rate of the continuous casting billet reached 82% in the last quarter.
