For multi-channel transmission systems with a 1550 nm transmission window, scientists are looking for ways to squeeze more and more data into a single fiber. The latest research from Japan’s NTT Corporation suggests that fluoride optical fiber amplifiers may be the answer. Optical amplifiers made of fluoride optical fibers have great potential in the wavelength range that can not be achieved by erbium-doped fiber amplifiers.
