自８０年代初开始对淮北沿海夏玉米高产途径与技术进行较系统的研究与探讨，明确了提高群体籽粒库容量、整齐度、花后光合势与花后物质生产量是玉米高产群体的重要特征；走“足群体、壮个体、高积累”的栽培途径；提出了夏玉米创高产（≥６００公斤／亩水平）的十二字促控技术，即“足株”、齐苗”、“调肥”、“控水”、“迟收”、“化保”．
