弄清楚林肯对奴隶制的态度,是写好内战史的一个重要条件。我国不少人认为林肯不是废奴派,察其论据,多限于例举一八六三年以前林肯有关奴隶制的言论和政策。 事实是林肯对奴隶制的态度前后不一。从一八六三年晚些时候起到六五年初,他的态度发生根本变化,达到全新境界。因而应该把考察的目光一直推到六五年,按他最终达到的高度去作结论。
To understand Lincoln’s attitude towards slavery is an important condition for writing a good history of civil war. Many people in our country think that Lincoln is not an abolitionist school. Its arguments are mostly limited to citing Lincoln’s statements and policies on slavery before 1863. The fact is Lincoln’s attitude toward slavery is different. From late 1863 to early June 2005, his attitude has undergone fundamental changes and has reached a completely new level. Therefore, the attention of the investigation should be pushed to six or five years and the conclusion reached according to the height that he finally achieved.
