老舍是少数几个三四十年代享誉中外文坛的作家之一,其作品《骆驼祥子》更是脍炙人口,以其通俗、新鲜、活泼口语化特点的语言,不仅在中国现代文学史上占有重要的一席之地,更属于世界文学文化的一部分。而《骆驼祥子》誉满海外的原因,很大一部分成就应归功于1945年Evan King在美国的推介。Evan King的译作Rickshaw Boy,因译者的改写、删译、误译,在翻译评论界饱受争议。本文从译者的翻译目的和译作的接受度去评述,以此修正Evan King是否真的是“误译”这个观点。
Lao She is one of the few writers renowned in the Chinese and foreign literary circles in the 1930s and 1940s. A great part of the reason why “Camel Shoko” has been overseas is due to the introduction of Evan King in the United States in 1945. Evan King’s translation of Rickshaw Boy, due to the translator’s rewriting, deletion, mistranslation, controversial in the translation critics. This article reviews the purpose of the translator’s translation and the acceptance of the translation to see whether Evan King really is a “mistranslated” idea.
