洛阳古称豫州,因地处洛水之阳而得名,是我国著名的历史文化名城。从中国历史上第一个封建王朝夏朝起,先后有13个皇朝在此建都,历时长达2000多年,占中国5000年文明史的五分之二,号称中国的“九朝古都”。汉唐时,“城池雄伟,宫苑壮丽,为天下之冠”。那时的洛阳是全国政治、经济、文化的中心,有“东都”,“诗都”、“花都”等美称。悠久的历史给洛阳留下了丰厚灿烂的文化积存,北宋著名史学家司马光为此而感慨“若问古今兴废事,请君只看洛阳城”。
