Attendance at the Global Internet Symposium held by the vice president of Microwave Communications, Inc., “the father of the Internet,” said that although the current network economy is still relatively small, its development prospects are limitless. Cerf stressed that the Internet will be an important pillar of world economic development in the 21st century. He predicts that by 2003 the global network economy will amount to as much as 2 trillion U.S. dollars, accounting for 10% of the global GNP. By 2006, the global network business will exceed the telephone system, and by 2010, all the world’s telecommunications companies will be the main network business.
