“中国意识”一词用于海外华文文学研究领域,最早或见于饶芃子、杨匡汉主编的《海外华文文学教程》书中。“中国”一词在种种语境中,意义在种族(race)、民族(nation)、国家(state)之间滑动,再加上经常与“爱国主义”、“祖国”之类情感意味极浓的词语互用,含义变得模糊、微妙。“中国意识”这样一种表述,也许能涵盖“爱国主义”、“国家主义”、“民族主义”、“祖国”、“传统”、“现代”、“炎黄文化”等词语群所包含的诸多种族
