The porphyry copper deposit is mainly related to the magmatic alkaline magmatic activity of the magnetite series produced above the subduction zone on the edge of convergent plate. In this tectonic setting, porphyry copper deposits may form beneath stratigraphic volcanoes, whereas black ore deposits are produced in submarine caldera. The relationship between black ore and porphyry mineralization is undoubtedly a major issue of the Meso-Cenozoic mineralization in the Pacific Rim. In this paper, the authors review the most important “porphyry copper deposit” in Japan to compare with the typical examples in other parts of the world. Kitakami-Awaji Belt (Cretaceous deposit) Red gold mines: The magnetite ore body of the red gold deposit in Iwate Prefecture was discovered through the subsurface exploration of the skarn-type copper deposit and may belong to the porphyry type because chalcopyrite and Pyrrhotite in quartz porphyry (SiO_2 71-
