成都是一个有传统性花市的城市。自唐宋以来,即有不少著名诗人,为成都风物所吸引,写下了许多优美的诗篇,这就给盆景艺术家们以很大的启迪,花市后来就形成了一年一度的花会,杂花生树、万紫千红、枝条交错,也丰富了盆景艺术家们的盘扎和构思;再加以川西平原盛产沙渍石和许多独有的可以制作盆景的植物,如金弹子、虎刺、六月雪等,也为盆景制作提供了极为良好的物质条件。
