The authors studied the effects of progestin-only oral contraceptives (norethindrone 350 μg or R 2332) on lipids and lipoprotein-cholesterol in women. All subjects were normotensive healthy women without personal or family history of contraindications to oral contraceptive use, no smoking, no alcohol or occasional light drinking, infrequent use of other medications, and body weight within ± 10% of normal body weight for the corresponding age. A total of 86 study subjects were divided into two groups according to age: 34 in the older group were women aged 40 to 45 years, with no OC at least 6 months prior to participating in the study. The younger group consisted of 52 women under the age of 30 who were women 6 to 12 weeks postpartum, 26 of whom were lactating women. All women follow the random table
