热塑光阀是一种高分辨率的存贮和投映器件,它把光的产生和调制两种功能区别开;而在通常阴极射线管中,这两种功能是混在一起的。热塑光阀的调制,是在真空室内,用静电细聚焦和静电偏转的电子束,调制可塑介质的厚度,形成衍射图案。而照明功能,是在真空室外,用一单透镜的胥里仑光学系统来完成。电子束和光通路,在光阀中都顺着同心轴线;器件的最高电压为7.5千伏。长期的贮存或者不变质的连续读出,均可维持24小时以上;而且还可以根据需要,随意在1秒钟之内,予以擦除。在存贮面上测出的分辨率,超过每英寸1800条电视线,并能存贮和投映全部10级灰色标度。一旦在光阀中存入图象之后,进行显示所需的能量,就只决定于外光源的能量。从一只可拆卸式投映器上,可以方便地取下存贮面,把它放到别处的胥里仑系统进行放映,图象也不变质。
Thermoplastic light valve is a high-resolution storage and projection device that distinguishes between light generation and modulation; in general cathode ray tubes these two functions are mixed together. Modulation of thermoplastic light valve is in the vacuum chamber, with electrostatic focus and electrostatic deflection of the electron beam, modulation of the thickness of the plastic medium to form a diffraction pattern. Once the image is stored in the light valve, the energy required for the display depends only on the energy of the external light source. From a detachable projector, the storage surface can be easily removed and placed on a Freelander system elsewhere for projection without any deterioration of the image.
