This article reports the mouse Balb / c corneal HSV-1 KOS strains after the virus in the trigeminal ganglion to establish a latent infection. Virus in the cornea, trigeminal ganglion, brainstem, cerebral cortex reproductive peak titers appear in turn a delay in time, while no blood flow in animals detected. The above results support the transmission of the virus to the CNS along axons. Viruses latent infection for more than two months can be reactivated in vitro by co-culture of trigeminal ganglia and Vero cell monolayers. This provides a experimental model for further investigation of the mechanism of latent infection with HSV-1.
