Haut-Rhône, about 2261m (7420ft) above sea level, is the easternmost point of the Churfirsten Massif Qilian Mountains. It rises slowly from the river to the north of Quetzburg, to the south by 1905m (6250ft) into the Walensee lake. Hintergleg, Rosenbund and Xiazeluge constitute the highland plain and cliffs in sharp contrast. Behind this breathtaking topography, the Alps are slowly spreading into the horizon. Since 1972, the area is under the jurisdiction of the Winterthur-Irtilius-Chardonnay cable car, less than half an hour from Munich to St. Gallen.
