这次武汉市楚剧团来京演出,贯彻了“两条腿走路”的方針,演出了歌頌大跃进的現代戏《紅色标兵》,新整理改編的传統戏《拜月記》,以及其他传統戏《百花贈剑》《庵堂认母》《虹桥贈珠》《打豆腐》等。其中有大戏,有小戏,有文戏,也有武戏,使人感到楚剧的演出丰富多彩,显示了楚剧几年来很大的发展和提高。此外,我們还可以看出楚剧由于继承了湖北高腔,因而充实了过去缺乏的行当,音乐、表演得到丰富提高。从《庵堂认母》的演出中就可以看到楚剧音乐与湖北高腔音乐的结合,
