在１９８０～１９９０年开展长埠《油茶无性系早实丰产配套技术研究》中试同时，对参试的油茶无性系进行了长期观察、调查，并对照全国油茶优树标准，１９９５年优选出了长林５３号等１８个适合本地区栽培的优良无性系，每ｈｍ２产油脂８８５．７５～５１２．８５ｋｇ，比实生对照增产１８９．２％～６７．４３％，超过国标９６．８％～１４％，抗病力强，果实炭疽病率为０。１９９６年１月被江西省林木良种审定委员会认定为１８个优育无性系品种。
