如同北京保利隶属于保利文化一样,新成立的嘉德拍卖和嘉德投资也隶属于嘉德文化集团。至此,内地拍卖市场的两位执牛耳者一位已经成功上市,另一位似乎蠢蠢欲动。值得玩味的是,国际上,苏富比早在1998年就在纽约证券交易所上市,而与它较量了200多年的另一大拍卖业巨头佳士得却至今对上市意兴阑珊。虽然嘉德拍卖未必像佳士得那样对上市兴致索然,但眼下中国拍卖行的格局和国际上似乎很相像:两位执牛耳者,一位上市,一位没有。
Just as Beijing Poly is part of Poly Culture, the newly formed Guardian Auctions and Guardian Investments are also part of the Guardian Culture Group. At this point, one of the two leaders in the mainland auction market has been successfully listed, and the other seems ready to go. It is worth pondering that, internationally, Sotheby’s was listed on the New York Stock Exchange as early as 1998, while Christie’s, another major auction house that has been competing for more than 200 years, has been disappointed with the listing so far. Although the Guardian auction may not be as attractive as Christie’s for listing, the pattern of the Chinese auction now seems to be very similar to that of the rest of the world: two people who hold the bargain, one goes public, and one does not.
