日本有着独特的地理环境,它地处于亚洲大陆的东部,是太平洋上一个呈弧状分布的群岛国家。东临太平洋,西隔东海、黄海、朝鲜海峡、日本海,同中国、朝鲜、俄罗斯相望。北面与库页岛、西伯利亚隔海相望。日本是个岛国,又北海道、本周、九州、四国等4000多个岛屿组成。列岛呈东北—西南走向,细长狭窄,海岸线约33,000公里。岛上山地和火山占国土面积的74%。火山约200多座,其中一部分是活火山,现在仍处于活动状态。而低洼地只占国土面积的15%,人口大部分都集中在这些区域。由于列岛位于亚洲大陆和太平洋之间,常受季风和台风的强烈影响,一年四季温差很大,自然灾害频繁,地震、台风、火灾被称为日本的三大【名物】。日本民族自古以来就是在这样独特的自然地理环境中生活的。也正是这种独特的自然地理环境培育了日本民族独特的自然观、人生观、思维方式、行为准则和风俗习惯
