BACKGROUND During the puberty, citrate infusion leads to a decrease in plasma ionized calcium, leading to prolonged QT intervals and hypotension. At the myocardial level, monitoring of QTc is a sensitive indicator of sub-physiological calcium levels caused by citrate poisoning. Study Design and Methods This study recruited 76 conventional platelet donors. The QTc interval was monitored in 4 time periods for 3 consecutive minutes during the apheresis and the blood pressure was recorded every 5 minutes. Results QTc values for baseline males were 406.5 ± 13.1 milliseconds 1/2 and for females 417.6 ± 13.3 milliseconds 1/2 (P = 0.0016). The QTc extension was found throughout the course of all donors. The highest recorded female was significantly higher than the male (450.8 ± 20.8 versus 424.8 ± 14.3 msl / 2; P = 0.0025). All QTc values are after apiece
