While many retailers are struggling, Apple’s success in stores has been outstanding. As retail sales fell 2.4% in 2009, Apple’s retail sales rose about 7%. According to retail growth firm Customer Growth Partners, 2009 is the first time in decades that retail sales have fallen. In 2010, Apple’s retail sales excluding online sales soared 70% to 11.7 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for about 15% of revenue (76.3 billion U.S. dollars), easily surpassing 4.5% sales growth of the overall retail industry.
