Objective To analyze the factors that affect medical staff to report adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in children and to explore ways to solve the problem. Methods A questionnaire was used to investigate the status of ADRs in children and to investigate the medical staffs in Shanghai Children’s Hospital. Results A total of 600 questionnaires were distributed and 563 valid questionnaires were collected. Medical staff have little knowledge of ADRs; education, occupation, history of diagnosis of ADRs, the level of awareness of ADRs and ADRs knowledge training and education are related to reporting of ADRs; job responsibilities and voluntary reports are the main factors that promote medical staff to report to ADRs .It is not known whether ADRs are the main factors that affect the reporting of ADRs to medical staff without knowing the procedures and diagnosis of ADRs. Most ADRs trained by medical staff are related to ADRs lectures and ADRs issuance. Conclusion The lack of training and publicity of ADRs knowledge for most medical staffs is the main reason that affects the reporting of ADRs in children. To strengthen and deepen the education and training of ADRs is the prerequisite for monitoring ADRs in children.
