In his writings, “History of the United States of America since the discovery of the American continent,” by Bancroft, it is stated that the Anglo-Saxon national identity that loves independence and freedom is the source of the American free spirit, Another source of American pursuit of freedom and faith. The faith-free United States will become more and more in conformity with the general law of the moral world and tend to unite. The unique spirit of the United States will therefore bring about a convergence within the country and become universal in the world. Adhering to the spirit of freedom, the democratic system in the United States is an example of a modern and civilized nation. In his book, Ban’s pointed out the spiritual direction for the nascent U.S. and strengthened the cohesion of this new nation. His historical thinking catered to the wishes and demands of American society in the mid-19th century. It also revealed the historical origins of the formation of the American national psychology and the American characteristics in the mid-19th century. His works were therefore widely accepted by society at that time.
