1985年,农业部向部属八所农业大学提出要求,每所学校扶持一个贫困县。三年过去了,来自北京、沈阳、西北、西南、华中、南京、华南七所农业大学和北京农业工程大学主管科技开发工作的校长,以及各校科技扶贫开发团团长、10个有关贫困县的负责同志共40余人,3月25日至28日聚会于华中农业大学,向农业部领导汇报各校三年来科技扶贫工作的成绩,相互交流科技扶贫工作的成果和经验。农业部王连铮副部长向受表彰的华中农大、沈阳农大、西北农大、西南农大等18个先进集体和39位先进个人颁发了奖状和奖品。并勉励大家“为了进一步贯彻落实五中全会精神和我部作出今年为全国农业科技推广年的决定,农业院校应积极组织力量,为科技兴农作出贡献。”
